• Degree in 'Marine Technology' from the University of Plymouth, UK. 

• PhD entitled: "Performance Prediction and Analysis of High Speed Planing Craft", started at University of Plymouth and completed whilst working for Vosper Thornycroft UK Ltd. 

• Employed by Vosper Thornycroft UK Ltd. as a Naval Architect, specialising in Hydrodynamics and latterly in Structural design.

• Employed as the company Naval Architect at Princess Yachts International plc. and was primarily responsible for technical issues, including the structural design, CE certification (c/o RINA UK Ltd) and MCA Certification.

• Employed as a Senior Design Engineer in the Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering Group at Devonport Royal Dockyard Ltd. (DRDL) also known as Devonport Management Ltd. (DML).

• Freelance Naval Architect - Involved in the design of various craft, with an ever increasing portfolio of designs; also providing technical assistance to various boatbuilders and certification authorities. An experienced marine surveyor, from RCD/MCA compliance examinations through to condition/pre-purchase surveys. JB has comprehensive experience with Composite, Aluminium and Steel structural design, as well as a thorough knowledge of vessel stability and compilation of Stability Information Books for code compliance.
